April in Minnesota - Day 4 - Last Day

The day after a wedding weekend is usually set aside for resting and re-cooperating, however, when its your last day home and its a short visit this doesn't happen.
Tired and probably not looking to hot to trot after a 2 day binge with my high school friends little did I know that my dad had invited my grandparents, including my great grandma - who is 100 years old, to come out to see me, Dan, and the kids.  My mom is busy already in the kitchen preparing a ton of stuff for lunch, the kids are out with grandpa, and I am trying to sleep on the couch (this was not successful).  All of the sudden here comes a car pulling up the driveway and it's my grandparents.  I had to get up and attempt to compose myself and be sociable, which I did.  They visited and got to see the kids which was a good thing.  My brother and his family also arrived soon after.  We did some visiting and ate lunch and then my grandparents left.
I had planned a few fun things for the day. I had my brother stop and pick up the Wii game, Dance Moves 2 so that we could have some fun.  First we played outside with the kids since it was also relatively nice out even though it had snowed just 2 days before.  We got out our 4-wheeler and tied a sled to it and the guys gave rides to the kids.  It was great to see my kids get to play with their cousins.  This is one of the things that I have guilt over for moving so far away.  I spent so much time with my cousins they are really more like brothers and sisters to me and I have taken that opportunity away from my children (at least right now).  They all played so good together. We rounded up the crew to go inside and start dancing.  It was hilarious!  I made my dad dance against me first.  We put it on random and the first song that came up was "Jump, Jump".  This has got to be one of the most tiring songs and most active.  To see my dad doing these dance moves cracked us all up.  We all needed to take a little break for the dancing, because let's face it - we are all getting old!  We headed outside where Dan had set-up a target for us to do some shooting.  We brought home my pink 9mm handgun so that I could shoot it a couple more times.  Dan shot first and then me and then the rest of us all took a shot.  I was trying to have a shoot out with my brother, but I think he probably was a better shot then me.  Back into the house we went to eat supper and do a little more dancing.  Everyone was heading out and it time for me to start packing bags and getting ready for the morning and the long, unforgiving drive back to Colorado.  Before I knew it, it was already 10:30pm and I was just heading to bed.  With a little help from a little sleeping pill I finally fell asleep for some much needed rest.  I set the alarm for 5:00am.  Of course when the alarm started going off and I tried to wake up Dan it was a big no go, snooze, snooze and after multiple times I finally re-set the alarm for 7am.  Seven rolled around and we still didn't get out of bed until closer to eight.  We finally were on the road for the long 14 hour drive home.  Here comes the hard part, always - saying good-bye and leaving.  My dad and mom stood in the garage and watched us back out. My dad as usual takes off into the house to have his own time to I assume be sad.  My mom tries to hold back tears and it never happens.  Katelynn then also starts to get extremely emotional this trip and grandma has to come to her window and say good-bye again and then Katelynn starts to cry and then my mom starts to cry.  This breaks my heart more than you can imagine and I have my own regrets and guilts more and more each time we leave, especially when we don't have a scheduled date of when we will see them again.  We have gone a year before without going home and its getting to the point where I want to be home at least every 3 months.  We didn't end up pulling up to our house until 12:30am.  Dan and I were completely wiped out.  We unloaded the kids to their beds and unloaded the stuff we needed.  Working the next day was not going to be fun.
This was one of the quickest, but most fun trips I have had home.  I wanted to turn around and go back and do it all over again.  There is something to be said for friends that you haven't seen or talked to for months at a time (and a few of them years) and you pick up just like you never left.
Here are some pictures from our last day home.
